4 weeks, mid May and mid June

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This new program is a collaboration between the University of Alabama's College of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), and The Capstone International Center (CIC). Based in the beautiful city of Prague, in The Czech Republic, at The University of New York-Prague campus, the 2008 program mission is "To create an award-winning, professional-quality, promotional video production featuring UA's CIC study abroad programs throughout the European Union (EU)."

This program features two (mandatory) Saturday pre-departure classes (on 3-29 & 4-12-08, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.); pre-departure required readings; $100 deposit for group travel to Prague; 1st week in Prague (including in-classroom training, and doing on-site productions); then travel to Klagenfurt Austria, Florence Italy, Alcala de Hanares (Madrid) Spain,& Mannheim/Heidelberg Germany for on-sight production work & meeting-up with other CIC study abroad programs, and students, and documenting their study abroad experiences; then a return trip to Prague for postproduction work, planning & evaluations, and attendance at The 45th International Television Festival- GOLDEN PRAGUE. Additional post-program assignments may be required to complete this program and receive your grade (grades issued in August 2008), depending upon your individual and team assignment(s), and the class(es) you enroll in.

Course offerings, options and grading:
Students are permitted to enroll in a maximum of 6.0 credit hours (2 courses). All students will be enrolled in MC-495 Special Topics: Corporate/promotional video production (3.0 credit hours), and students electing to enroll in a 2nd course (of student's choice, from the courses listed below) will be assigned additional responsibilities and course deliverables matched to their course selection.

Optional 2nd courses include:
TCF-389
- Telecommunications & Film - Special Topics (production work, post-production work, etc.). (3.0 Cr. Hrs.)

JN-491 Journalism - Special Topics (pre-production writing and planning; writing about the program production process and experience; doing video-scriptwriting; assisting in documenting the program process and instructional details, and other journalistic writing as approved by the instructor, etc.). (3.0 Cr. Hrs.)

APR-380 Independent Study (Advertising & Public Relations focus including: advertising work related to the CIC promotional video, public relations work related to the video production and international individuals/ publics we will be working with, other APR work to be arranged by student & APR Instructor - by departmental assignment/approval). (3.0 Cr. Hrs.)

Letter grades will be issued. Grades are based on instructor assessment of individual contribution to the team effort and the overall quality of the team production. NOTE: By enrolling in this course, students will indicate that they understand that their grade(s) is(are) based upon the subjective opinion of the faculty member(s) as to their individual contribution to the class, and to the team production. Grade(s) may include an element of team evaluation and assessments of fellow team members, based solely at the discretion of the faculty member(s)/instructor(s).

Students planning to use financial aid to fund their overseas study should contact Vickey Phillips (vickey.phillips@ua.edu, 205-348-8760, 135 B.B. Comer Hall) for a financial aid letter which details the cost of the program and estimates expenses not included in the program. Students should take the letter to Financial Aid and meet with a counselor. If Financial Aid determines an award will be made, they will prepare an Anticipated Aid form for you. Please bring this form to CIAP. Please remember to include your CWID and name of program on the form.
