Dr. Carter received her B.S.N. from the Troy State University in 1977. She earned her M.S.N. in Adult Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1983 and her D.S.N. in Community Mental Health with a functional role of Nursing Service Administration in 1998. Dr. Carter's research interests are in the areas of Decision Support for nursing and the effectiveness of wellness programs in small industry. She is responsible for teaching in the areas of Community Health and Introduction to Professional Nursing. She received both the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award from the National Alumni Association and The Alabama State Nurses' Associations Outstanding Nurse Educator/Academe Award in 2000. She currently serves as Past-President of the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.
