Controlling Spam
- Go to http://helpdesk.ua.edu/email/spam/index.html
- Click Online configuration tool
- Type in your myBama/Bamamail Account and Password then click Next Step
- Type in *@ua.edu in the You always want to accept mail from: field
- Select Aggressively discard spam at the Completely filter really bad spam? pulldown list
- Click Next
- Make sure that Safest: Attach message to report as text is selected at the What to do with spam: pulldown list
- Type in 4 at the Minimum spam score: field
- At the Customize the way the filter scores mail: place a check next to
- ==I do not receive mail in Asian languages.
- ==I want to rigorously protect my privacy.
- ==I want to be extremely vigilant in blocking sexual content.
- Choose English at the What languages do you receive e-mail in? and What character sets (alphabets) do you receive e-mail in? questions
- Click on Finish
- Click on Confirm
- You can close the window or tab at
this point
Making sure that Bamamail is not blocking email from people you want to receive email from
- Log into Bamamail
- Click on Options
- Under Mail Management click on Filters
- Click on Edit your filter rules
- Find the email addresses that are being filtered or blocked, highlight one you wish to remove then click Delete
- Continue to do this one at a time
Getting rid of emails with large attachments
- Log into Bamamail
- Click on Options
- Click on Deleting and Moving Messages
- Remove the check next to When deleting messages, move them to your Trash folder instead of marking them as deleted?
- Click Save Options
- Go to the folder where the email exists and delete it
- The email will now be grayed out with a line through it
- Click on Purge Deleted located at the top and bottom right of the list of emails
- The message should be truly gone at this point.
