Dr. Collins is a Clinical Associate Professor of Nursing with a clinical focus in critical care, pharmacology, intraoperative nursing and adult health. She received her AS and BSN from Samford University in 1976 and 1977, and earned her MSN from Medical College of Georgia in 1978. She completed her DSN from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1991. Dr. Collins has a 31-year history of clinical nursing experience. She has published in the areas of cardiovascular pharmacology and pathophysiology. She also speaks locally, regionally, and nationally on topics of clinical relevance to post-anesthesia care, and gastrointestinal physiology. She has eleven years experience as a Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist. In this role she assisted patients and staff to improve patient outcomes through education and advanced practice nursing interventions. Dr. Collins serves the college by teaching and providing advanced practice nursing resources throughout Alabama.

She is active in the American Association of Critical Care Nursing. She is the recipient of the Baptist Health System of Alabama Mission Awards of Excellence and Resourcefulness in both 1998 and 2000. In 2005 the Board of Visitors for the Capstone College of Nursing presented Dr. Collins with the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award. The American Association of Critical Care Nurse awarded her the National Excellence in Teaching Award also in 2005. Dr. Collins assisted in the production of technology product produced at CCN called Clinical Decisions: Patient Outcomes. This CD is a cooperative effort of the following CCN staff and faculty: Thomas Little, Patrick McIntyre, Angela Collins, Ann Graves, and Becky Edwards. This CD is the recipient of the Alabama League of Nursing Excellence in Education award the Region 8 Sigma Theta Tau award for technology.
