Reviewers’ Guide
Here is the list of principal items that will be checked as part of the review of a submitted thesis or dissertation:
  1. Organization of the pages - preliminaries are all present and in the correct order. No missing pages from manuscript.
  2. Format - print font and margins are correct and acceptable. First page of each major section/chapter have two-inch top margin. 
  3. Page Numbering - all pages numbered except title and copyright pages. 
  4. Preliminary pages numbering - all Roman numerals, centered at bottom of page. 
  5. Main pages numbering - all Arabic numerals, top right hand corner. EXCEPT chapter/main section first pages, where number is located center at the bottom. 
  6. Paper quality - all pages printed on same paper, on 100%cotton fiber paper of at least 20lb weight.
  7. References in text - in accordance with style used. Must be single-spaced where more than one line. 
  8. References List - In accordance with the style used, otherwise left flush first line, hanging indented subsequent. All references in text have been included in reference list. Single-spaced, double- spaced in between entries. 
  9. Abstract - layout conforms to Grad School requirements. No underlining in heading. Where more than one page, number second page 2 in top right hand corner, no page number on first page. Signatures must appear immediately after the narrative; where signatures on page 2, must be accompanied by at least two lines of the narrative.
  10. Table of Contents, List of Tables, and List of Figures - ensure consistency of words and capitalization between these pages and the manuscript. 
  11. All pages must be free of smudges, gray cast, or any extraneous marks. 
  12. Double-spacing throughout except – long table heads - long quotations - multi-line captions - reference lists (but double-space in between) - chapter, section, and table headings of more than one line. 
  13. Any font size is acceptable but not less than 10 and must be legible. No script fonts, no multiple typefaces. 
  14. Do not divide words at the bottom of a page and carry them over to the next. 
  15. A sentence ending a paragraph must not end as a partial line at the top of the page. 
  16. No running heads. 
  17. All citations and footnotes must be placed on the appropriate page, not at the end of chapters or at the end of the document.
Whilst it is the committee’s responsibility for checking other major style guide compliances, the following items will also be reviewed:
  1. Tables and figures are consistently formatted throughout the document.
  2. Chapter and sub-level headings are consistently formatted throughout the document.
  3. Any bold fonts are consistently applied in accordance with the chosen style guide.
  4. Tables and figures headings are consistent between the list of page and the actual table or figure.
