FALL 2007 DEADLINES
GRADUATE SCHOOL DEADLINES FOR
DOCTORAL DEGREE
Students who are planning to graduate in August must meet certain deadlines set by the Graduate School. PLEASE NOTIFY OUR OFFICE AT ONCE IF YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO MEET THE DEADLINES.

August 21-31 Admission to candidacy and application for degree must filed in the Graduate School Office by those students who anticipate graduating this fall. Forms are available online at: http://graduate.ua.edu/academics/forms/
October 10 An approved dissertation title card (available in Graduate School Office or at the graduate website at http://graduate.ua.edu/academics/forms/) must be filed in the Graduate School Office. We must have the exact title by this date.
October 26 Last day to submit successfully defended and edited dissertations to the Graduate School. NO EXCEPTIONS! See the Student Guide for Preparing Thesis and Dissertations at http://graduate.ua.edu/thesis/ for formatting requirements. ENCLOSE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS IN A PAPER BOX WITH A COVER AND DO NOT SUBMIT ITEMS SEPARATELY:

1. Receipt from the Office of Student Receivables for:   

Dissertation binding fee $25.00
Microfilming and abstract fee $55.00
Total $80.00

2. Dissertation: two copies on l00% rag bond (cotton fiber) paper.

3. Abstract of dissertation--typed in duplicate on 100% rag bond paper (NOT OVER 350 WORDS.)  

4. Dissertation acceptance page (to be bound in dissertation as page ii) typed in triplicate and approved with original signatures on each. (Sample is shown online in the Student Guide for Preparing Thesis and Dissertations.)  

*NOTE: Forms for items 5 & 6 below no longer are available in the Graduate School

5. Microfilming Contract: Go to http://www.il.proquest.com/dissertationagree. You will be asked for a username and password. Your username is: dissertations and your password is: publish. Look at the bottom of the page (2007 Dissertation Publishing agreement). Print this form, complete it, and submit with the dissertation.

6.Survey of Earned Doctorate: Go to http://www.norc.org/projects/Survey+of+Earned+Doctorates.htm. Select the first SED form under "Questionnaires," print the survey, complete it, and submit with the dissertation.

December 15 COMMENCEMENT - Arrangement for cap and gown must be made through the University Supply Store (Box 870291, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0291) before the end of November. Your doctoral hood, which will be presented to you at commencement, will be rented by the University.  Candidates for doctoral degrees are required to attend commencement when diplomas will be awarded.  A written request for authorization of absence must be made to the Dean of the Graduate School.
