| 7.4.6 Master of
Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.) Degree Programs The M.A. and M.S. degrees are specialized master's degrees designed to prepare students for professional positions in business, management, and related fields, and to serve as preparation for study toward a doctoral degree. The M.A. degree is offered in economics and management and the M.S. degree is offered in finance, marketing, operations management and applied statistics. Program missions and prerequisites vary by field and are described in the following sections pertaining to each curriculum. Admission requirements. Admission requirements are outlined and under each curriculum in the following sections. M.A. and M.S. degree requirements. The master of arts and the master of science degree with a major field of specialization is granted upon the completion of at least 30 semester hours of graduate work in accordance with the requirements of the University of Alabama Graduate School under Plan II. A maximum of 6 hours of 400-level coursework may be accepted for an M.A. or M.S. degree program. The remaining courses must be selected from those numbered 500 or above.
