Services Provided

The General Pediatric Clinic: All faculty members (four pediatricians and a nurse practitioner) see patients every weekday. This provides a source of comprehensive out- patient medical care for a variety of children from allover West Alabama, many of whom have complicated medical problems. It also serves as a primary teaching experience for medical students and family practice residents.
Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00

Pediatrics Clinic Staff

The ADHD Clinic: The University of Alabama's ADHD Multidisciplinary Clinic provides care for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The ADHD Clinic, which began operations iI1 1999, is a collaborative project involving the Pediatric and Psychiatry Departments of the medical school and The University of Alabama's School of Social Work, College of Education, and Dept. of Psychology The clinic meets weekly throughout the year serving children from 6 to 18 years of age. Over 200 children are receiving services via this clinic with 40 new patients assessed each year.
Monday afternoons each week

The Perinatal High-Risk Followup Clinic: This is a multispecialty clinic involving Pediatrics, Social Services, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Developmental and Hearing specialists, and nutritional services. The patients seen in this clinic are graduates from the regional high risk nursery and include a number of medically fragile children. The clinic is held each Wednesday afternoon.

The West Alabama Child Medical Evaluation Center: This is a forensic pediatric clinic for medical assessment of children who have come to the attention of local authorities as potential victims of child abuse. In operation since 1991, it bas served over 500 children from 10 counties in West Alabama. It is one of only four clinics of this type in Alabama (the others are in Huntsville, Birmingham, and Mobile) and is second only to Huntsville in longevity. The clinic is equipped with a sophisticated colposcope and computer software to enable the doctors (Taylor and Cockrum) to record, study, and conduct ongoing research and quality assurance with other forensic pediatricians in the state in an effort to improve Our ability to assist these most unfortunate and needy children.

The Pediatric Cardiology Clinic: This regional outreach service is conducted one day each month. It is staffed by a Pediatric Cardiologist and a nurse from The Children's Hospital of Alabama along with their own echocardiography machine. It serves a number of children from West Alabama, enabling them to get these needed services without having to travel to Birmingham.

The Regional Sickle Cell Clinic meets eight days a year, bringing a team of services from Children's Hospital including a Pediatric Hematologist to the Capstone Medical Center to serve children from across West Alabama with sickle cell disease.
