Circulation
Borrowers: All members of the university community with a
valid ID card have borrowing privileges. Alumni of the CCHS have full borrowing
privileges. Other alumni of the university and members of the community may use
resources in the Library.
Loan Period: Periodicals do not circulate. Monographs
and audiovisuals circulate for 30 days. Reserve material may either circulate
for 7 days or may be restricted to in-library use.
Renewals: are not accepted by telephone. To renew, books
must be brought to the library, or renewed online through "My Accounts" through
the UA Libraries page at http://amelia.ua.edu.
Returns: must be made to the Health Sciences Library, not
to one of the other UA System Libraries.
Course Reserve Material
University faculty may request course related library material to be placed
in the reserve collection, located at Circulation. To borrow an item, students
need to consult the Health Sciences Library Reserve List, a listing of all reserve
material by Course Number/Instructor to obtain a call number, required by the
circulation staff to locate and circulate the item. Reserve material may
either circulate for 7 days or may be restricted to in-library use. There are
no renewals permitted for reserve material.
Fines/Lost Book Penalties
Overdue Fines are $ .25 per day up to a maximum of $5.00.
Overdue fines for reserve material are $.50 per day.
Replacement costs for lost or damaged material is $100.00 per item.
Photocopy Service
There are two self service photocopy machines available in the glass enclosed
area adjacent to the library's front door.
Photocopy charge is $.05 per page.
One machine is coin operated. Both machines accept copy cards, which
may be purchased at Circulation for a minimum amount of $5.50.
The UA Library System copy cards are NOT ACCEPTED in the Health Sciences
Library.
For photocopying done by HSL staff, there is a $5.00 charge for UA and DCH
related patrons and a $10.00 for all others.
Interlibrary Loan
Items not available in the Health Sciences Library may be ordered from another
library (excluding local libraries). The following charges per item apply:

Reference Service
Computer-based searches may be completed by professional staff. Professional
staff have access to more than 300 specialized databases, including Medline.
This is a free service for members of CCHS.
Reference staff are available to assist you with your informational needs Monday
- Friday 8:00 am - 4:45 pm. At all times, the Circulation Staff may provide some
informational assistance.

Members of CCHS may request an office visit by appointment for information consultation
or instruction.
Fee-Based Computer Searches
Library professional staff can complete computer database searches for library
patrons, who are not members of CCHS. Charges may apply. Contact Reference

Library Orientation
Faculty may arrange an orientation to the Library, library services
and database searching for specific groups of students. These may be held
in the library or in a classroom location. Contact Reference 348-1364 for
bookings.
