Timothy W. Winkler, M.D. was born in Neosho, MO. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Oklahoma Christian College in Oklahoma City, OK. in 1982. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1988. After receiving his internship and residency in General Surgery at the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, Minnesota, he went in private practice with the “Surgical Specialists of Alabama, P.C.” in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He is board certified with the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Board of Surgeons.
Dr. Winkler became affiliated with the College of Community Health Sciences in 1994 as an Assistant Professor, and Associate Chair with the Department of Surgery. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and works with Dr. Joseph C. Wallace, Associate Professor and Chair.
He received the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Award in 1988, the Outstanding Surgery Student Award in the Department of Surgery as a medical student, and the Winds of Change Award, in the Department of Surgery from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He has had several publications dealing mostly with surgical cases. He enjoys teaching both medical students and residents while they are doing their surgery rotation.
He has appointments at DCH Regional Medical Center, Northport Hospital-DCH, Tuscaloosa Surgical Center and Bryce Hospital.
