Joseph C. Wallace, M.D. was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alabama in 1978. He also received the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Award. He went on to receive his medical degree from the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine in 1982. After he did an internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of South Alabama School Of Medicine in 1987, he went in practice with the “Surgical Specialists of Alabama, P.C” in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He is board certified with the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Board of Surgeons.
Dr. Wallace became affiliated with the College of Community Health Sciences in 1987–1993 as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Surgery. From 1993–1995, he was promoted to Associate Professor, and in 1995 he became Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery along with Dr. Timothy Winkler, as Assistant Chair.
He received the Patrick McCue Award for Outstanding Contributions to Under grate Medical Education in 1997. He has had several publications dealing mostly with surgical cases. He enjoys teaching both medical students and residents while doing their surgery rotation.
He has appointments at DCH Regional Medical Center, Northport Hospital-DCH, Tuscaloosa Surgical Center and Bryce Hospital.
