Dr. Owings was born and raised in Alabama. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from
the University of Alabama in 1956, and went on the get his M.D. from Tulane University
in 1958. After doing a general surgery residency at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita,
Kansas, he practiced in Centreville, Alabama for 31 years.
He has been teaching as part of the College of Community Health Sciences part
time since 1974, and full time on the family practice faculty since 1996. He
is currently the chair of the family medicine department. He is Board Certified
in family medicine. Dr. Owings excels at teaching the residents minor surgery
techniques and procedures. He also enjoys magic and playing guitar in his spare
time.
