E. Eugene Marsh, III, M.D.

E. Eugene Marsh, III, M.D., was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Alabama in 1975. He went on to receive his Medical Degree from the University of South Alabama in 1979. After an internship in Family Medicine, he completed a residency in neurology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., in 1983. He also served as a teaching fellow at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences from 1981-1983.
After fulfilling his military obligation, he completed an additional two years of training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a fellow associate in cerebrovascular diseases. He has maintained a private practice in Tuscaloosa since 1990, and has instructed students and residents at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Tuscaloosa Campus, for more than 10 years. He joined the UASOM faculty in 2001 as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine (Neurology) and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
In July 2004, Marsh was named Interim Dean of The University of Alabama’s College of Community Health Sciences and Interim Associate Dean, the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Tuscaloosa Campus. In November 2005, he was named Dean of the College of Community Health Sciences and Associate Dean of the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Tuscaloosa Campus. He served as the Medical Director for the Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation, the Quality Improvement Organization for the state of Alabama from January 2004-April 2006. He is the author of numerous publications and presentations, most dealing with cerebrovascular disease. He has received awards for his excellence in teaching from both medical students and residents, and was recently awarded The Leonard Tow 2003 Humanism in Medicine Award. |
