Dr. Ireland grew up in Clinton, MS. He went to Marion Institute after high school
then graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. After 5
years in the Army as an Engineer Officer, he then attended medical school at
the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, receiving his degree in 1981.
He did his residency at the Tuscaloosa Family Practice Residency Program, then
went into private practice in Mississippi for seven years in Clinton, MS with
his father. He joined the faculty in 1991.
His professional interests include type II diabetes, GERD, and hypertension.
In his spare time he enjoys golf, woodworking, and spending time with his wife
Lynn. He believes the greatest strength of the residency is the breadth of sick
patients our residents are exposed to. As they progress toward graduation, they
can handle, without fanfare, problems which were challenging to them as interns.
